I had not read anything by Pynchon so it was a learning curve. We are currently a state covered in smoke as there are 80 fires happening around the state. Thanks for dropping by. I've always wanted to go back to it someday to "overpower" it and finish but it hasn't happened yet.

Regarding your weather, anything sounds good to me right now. We've had one sub-zero and one at-zero night the past few days - I'm sure you remember how fun those are from your MI days... :-)Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10682779314614889264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182711239163480368.post-67807816771092687382016-01-18T10:31:09.710+11:002016-01-18T10:31:09.710+11:00I have often complained to my book group that too ...I have often complained to my book group that too much of modern literary fiction tries too hard to be clever. I just want a good story and well developed characters and I am happy. They also tend to make me dizzy.
I'm glad James Patterson came right out and said he does what he's good at. I don't think I've read any of the Alex Cross series, although I've seen movies that are based on them. I hadn't realized there were so many of them! I dislike a lot of contemporary literary fiction because it seems pretentious and like it tries to hard to be smart. I'd rather read a well-written mystery! But I did love All the Light We Cannot See, which my cousin gave me for my birthday.joan.kylerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17015342608992682333noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3182711239163480368.post-37590556793973255032016-01-17T16:07:06.141+11:002016-01-17T16:07:06.141+11:00Some of the Alex Cross are a bit gory.
